Collection: Natural Spinel

Spinel is an exceptional gemstone with many appealing qualities for jewelry designers. Most notable is that Spinel comes in a variety of colors that can be vivid or subtle with grayish undertones that are very on trend.  With a hardness rating of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, Spinel is just below some of the hardest natural gemstones such as alexandrite, ruby, sapphire, and diamond. This impressive hardness makes spinel highly resistant to scratches and daily wear, ensuring that jewelry pieces retain their beauty over time.

One of the qualities that makes it stand out from other gemstones of similar colors (think sapphires) is Spinels high refractive index. This property measures how much light is bent, or refracted, as it passes through the gemstone. A high refractive index translates to greater brilliance, often described as the gem's "sparkle" or "fire." When skillfully cut and polished, spinel exhibits extraordinary sparkle and vibrant flashes of light, similar to what you would see in a diamond.

Thanks to this combination of hardness, stunning brilliance, and diverse color palette, spinel will soon become your favorite gemstone to create variety and story in your jewelry designs.

A word of warning - Spinel is also very common as a synthetic (lab created) gemstone.  All of my Spinel are carefully sourced to be natural and will list the local of the mines they were sourced from to ensure that you are buying a natural gemstone.
