At 17.5x13.3mm and 11.6 carats, this rose cut oval is genuinely large for an Oregon Sunstone - stones of this size are uncommon in the market, and finding one in a rose cut adds another layer of rarity since the cut requires substantial depth to execute well. This one sits at 8mm deep, and that depth is doing real work: it gives the schiller - that metallic, light-scattering phenomenon caused by copper platelets suspended within the crystal - room to express itself, producing a soft peach sparkle that moves with the stone. The color is pale peach throughout.
Oregon Sunstone is the only North American feldspar with gem-quality schiller, and its domestic origin has made it increasingly appealing to designers working with provenance-conscious clients.
