Oregon sunstone is a labradorite feldspar found in the high desert of eastern Oregon, notable for being one of the few gem feldspars with a domestic origin and no treatment needed to achieve its color range - which runs from pale champagne through peach, pink, and red depending on copper content. The schiller, caused by reflective copper platelets suspended within the stone, adds a metallic shimmer that shifts with the viewing angle and gives each stone a character that photographs well and reads as movement in finished jewelry. Feldspar has perfect cleavage in two directions, so setters should avoid heavy pressure or ultrasonic cleaning, and bezel or protective prong settings are worth considering.
