Oregon Sunstone is the official state gemstone of Oregon, mined exclusively from the volcanic basalt flows of Harney and Lake Counties — one of the only gem feldspar deposits in the world where native copper is responsible for both color and optical phenomenon. These four oval cabochons originate specifically from the Sun Crystal Mine, one of the named Oregon Sunstone deposits whose material is recognized among collectors and designers for its quality and traceable domestic provenance. The rose cut top — a faceted upper surface applied to a cabochon form — is an uncommonly seen treatment in Oregon Sunstone material, requiring both high-quality rough and a skilled lapidary to execute well, and the result here is a stone that combines the light-scattering brilliance of faceting with the warm, glowing depth characteristic of a domed cabochon.
Four stones are available individually, each a 12 x 10mm oval at varying weights and depths — designated S1 through S4 for selection. The high dome profile of each stone amplifies light interaction through the full depth of the feldspar crystal, and the rose cut facets scatter that light across multiple planes simultaneously, creating a warmth and dimensionality that flat-topped or smooth cabochon cuts cannot achieve.
