Rose cut Oregon Sunstones with intense schiller are genuinely difficult to source, and these are a rare find. Please note that they are shallow in depth - something worth keeping in mind when planning your setting.
Oregon Sunstone is a labradorite feldspar found in only a handful of deposits in the high desert of eastern Oregon, and the copper-bearing stones - like these - produce that warm metallic flash known as schiller, an optical effect caused by reflective copper platelet inclusions within the crystal. The rose cut works well with schiller stones because the broad, flat base acts as a mirror that lets the phenomenon spread across the face of the stone. Feldspar has perfect cleavage in two directions, so bezel settings and protective designs are worth considering over prong work, and ultrasonics should be avoided.
