Oregon Sunstone is one of the only gemstones with an exclusively American origin, mined from the volcanic basalt flows of Harney and Lake Counties in Oregon. A variety of andesine-labradorite feldspar, these stones form naturally in a range of colors driven by trace copper content — from near-colorless and pale yellow to warm peach and salmon tones. Their domestic provenance and limited supply make them a standout choice for designers seeking a genuinely rare, traceable gemstone with a compelling origin story.

- What is the best stone? ----Tough call here...some people prefer lots of Schiller in their stones, others want the peach color or maybe more red.
- What is Schiller? ----Schiller is also called Aventurescence and is caused by small, flat reflective inclusions that align themselves along the mineral structure. Oregon Sunstones are unique as the schiller effect is caused copper incusions versus Indian Sunstones, which are caused by hematite and create a very different looking stone.
